Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon win Black Friday on Twitter

Black Friday weekend (along with its little brother, Cyber Monday) has become a pretty big thing in recent years, to the point where it’s now viewed as something of a canary in the coal mine for projected spending during the holiday season.

But what kind of traction did major retailers get on Twitter during the annual November spending spree?

MediaMiser collected nearly 500,000 tweets mentioning the #blackfriday hashtag over the weekend. Our analysis saw mega-retailer (and home of the #brawlmart hashtag) Walmart pick up the No. 1 spot (even after fight-related tweets were filtered out).

Best Buy and Amazon rounded out the top three, with each brand taking at least 20 per cent of the overall share of voice.
